DATA Network Integrates Trace Registry into Sui and Walrus for Rights-Cleared AI Training Data

On October 12, 2026, the DATA Network, along with its on‑chain registry Trace—which maintains over 250 million verifiable receipts of rights‑cleared AI training data—announced a major integration with the Sui blockchain and Walrus data platform. This move brings a live, rights‑verified AI training data supply directly onto Sui’s AI‑optimized infrastructure. Walrus, which anchors data integrity proofs on Sui, will become the default storage layer for applications operated by the DATA Foundation. Moreover, the DATA Network will be upgraded to run natively as a protocol on Sui.

The key players include the DATA Foundation, responsible for the Trace registry; the Sui Foundation, which provides high-speed blockchain infrastructure tailored to AI workloads; and Walrus, the data platform enabling integrity‑backed storage on Sui. Together, they form a stack aimed at powering next‑generation AI model development with verifiable data.

This integration reflects a broader trend in Web3, where blockchain infrastructure is being purpose‑built to support AI development—particularly around provenance, integrity, and compliance of training data. Rights‑cleared datasets are increasingly valued amid rising scrutiny over data usage and copyright concerns, and providing them on-chain enables auditability and trust.

At present, no public reactions or quantified usage metrics have been disclosed. The announcement frames the integration in technological terms, and further details—such as adoption by AI model developers or transactions using Trace‑verified data—are expected to emerge as the protocol goes live.
